Another good photo of the Cummins ISF engine, the four cylinder used in the Nissan Titan test truck. This is the same engine line that the Dept of Energy is testing with Cummins and Nissan now.
Cummins’ ISF line of four-cylinder diesels displacing 2.8 and 3.8 liters is in use on multiple continents. This photo is the 3.9-liter B engine, but it doesn’t meet current on-road emissions regs.
Installed in a Titan mule, the ISF 2.8-liter makes about the same torque as the Titan’s 5.6-liter gasoline V-8 (385 pound-feet in the Nissan pickup). Cummins believes it can get nearly 30 mpg (combined) alongside 200-plus horsepower
